Pre-labor acupuncture refers to a series of treatments given to help pregnant women prepare for childbirth. The treatment begins at the 37th week of gestation, once/twice per week until the end of the pregnancies.
Researches concluded that acupuncture from 37 weeks had a positive effect on the duration of labor by shortening the first stage of labor, defined as the time between 3cm cervical dilation and complete dilation.
Acupuncture plays a role by adjusting various hormones in the body, reducing progesterone, increasing estradiol content, and adjusting the relationship between progesterone, oxytocin, progesterone, and estrogen, to keep the body in its best condition for the process of labor.
